Castroville lies in the heart of the Castro Valley, less than 100 miles from San Francisco. Founded in 1863, Castroville is the second oldest town in Monterrey County. Farmers in the area began growing the town's signature crop, the artichoke, around 1920. Today, Castroville is known as the "Artichoke Capital of the World." Pictures of Castroville, California were taken by Joan Franklin |
