Ventura, located between the fertile Ventura and Santa Clara River Valleys, has a rich history that dates back to the California Missions of the early 1800's. Settlement of the area began in large numbers after the civil war, but for the most part, Ventura escaped the huge thrusts of immigrating people allowing the city to maintain a more leisurely and less crowded lifestyle.
