Gulfport is the first settled area of the county. It was first settled in 1868. When it incorporated in 1910 it was the largest incorporated town in the county. Much of that land is now in St. Petersburg and Gulfport is now a small community. There are many historical buildings and areas here including the oldest house found to this date in Gulfport that was built in 1875.

On the beautiful shores of Boca Ciega Bay, Gulfport is a busy place. Twice monthly is the Art Walk, promoting local artists with performing bands and artists showing their work in front of the shops. This goes on year round. Throughout the year there are many celebrations to enjoy including the Holiday Boat Parade and Tree Lighting in December, the Spring Fest Arts and Crafts Festival, the Geckco Fest, as well as antique car shows just to name a few.
