Beaufort is the second oldest township in South Carolina. There are several buildings that were built in the 1700's and 1800's. There are 39 museum's, historic attractions, and points of interest on the Chamber of Commerce Historic District Tour Map of downtown Beaufort. This can be picked up at the Visitor Center. You can explore these on your own or take one of the tours offered. Many of these homes and buildings will seem familiar as there have been several movies filmed here including "Prince of Tides", "The Big Chill", and "Forrest Gump" just to name a few. KAT'S VIEW Beaufort was a pretty cool town. They had the church used in the movie Forrest Gump. The town was really old. The town was established in 1711. It's almost 300 years old. So is the Parish Church that is located in Beaufort. Beaufort is a nice place to walk around for the day. I enjoyed Beaufort, it was a very interesting town. |
