Originally settled when the ship 'Carolina' landed in 1670, Charles Towne was founded. At the time of the Revolutionary War it was the fourth largest city in the country. It was also one of the wealthiest cities. After the Revolutionary War is was renamed to Charleston. Of course a visit to the Charleston Area will include a journey back in time as you enjoy the many historical attractions here. You will first be impressed with the grand architecture of the numerous historical buildings. Visits to the local plantations will allow you to experience the lifestyle here in the 1700's and 1800's. Be sure to include a visit to some of the churches from this time period as well. There are several historical churches here still in use today. There is a great amount of military history here as well. There are forts such as Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie. There is also Patriots Point where you can tour the USS Yorktown as well as other prominent military ships (and submarine). Charleston has many activities for everyone to enjoy. There is golfing, the Aquarium, and theaters just to name a few things. And of course there is shopping from specialty boutiques on King Street, open air shops on Market Street, to the Malls. You can be assured to find what you are looking for. KAT'S VIEW Charleston is a cool town. There's so much to do there. You can basically do just about all you want. It takes weeks to see everything. The town was awesome. They had museums, aquariums, art galleries, and lots of historical buildings. I loved this city. It is one of the best places to visit on vacation in my opinion. |
