Yorktown is the place where Cornwallis finally surrendered to General George Washington. As you can guess there is a lot of history here. You can see the cave Cornwallis retreated to when the American troops were bombarding the town. There is the historical Grace church. The Victory Monument stretches into the sky for all to see. The Nelson House is open for tours. Thomas Nelson, Jr. was governor of Virginia, commander of the Virginia militia, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. There are other historical buildings which are pointed out with signs to let you know what they were. |
