Douglas is a small city in central Wyoming that was established in 1886 when a railroad company chose the site as a rail stop and supply line for nearby Fort Fetterman. Douglas is the home of the mysterious and elusive jackalope, a cross between an antelope and a jackrabbit, which was first discovered here. The town is also home to several museums, including the Wyoming Pioneer Memorial Museum. It is also home to the Wyoming State Fair. Another big attraction in the area is the Fort Fetterman State Historic Site. Located 11 miles north of town on Highway 93, the fort was built in 1867 during the Indian conflicts.
