Laramie is known as the "Gem City of the Plains" and is home to the University of Wyoming and the Wyoming Territorial Park, a large western heritage park built around a restored 1890's Territorial Prison and the National U.S. Marshal's Museum.
About 40 miles northwest of Laramie is Como Bluffs, one of the world's most renowned fossil beds. Many of the skeletons taken from here may be viewed at the Geology Museum on the University of Wyoming Campus.
Laramie has a charming historic downtown district that features several boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, galleries and shops. Also in downtown Laramie is the Laramie Plains Museum which features many artifacts from Laramie's past.
