Location of UTZ Potato Chip Factory UTZ Potato Chip Factory The UTZ Potato Chip Factory offers a fun tour where you can see America's favorite snack food being made. UTZ has a distribution area from Maine to South Carolina and produces a wide variety of chip flavors. They have regular chips of course and also make BBQ, Sour Cream, Salt Vinegar, Crab, Carolina BBQ, Honey BBQ, Cheddar Sour Cream, Salt & Pepper, Fiesta, Mesquite, Onion Garlic, and Red Hot. The Utz family began making chips in their home on McAllister Street here in Hanover in 1921. Bill and Salie Utz were producing 50 pounds of chips per hour using hand equipment. In 1936 they installed an automatic chip cooker that raised their production to 300 pounds of chips per hour. Today the UTZ company has four production plants producing several snack foods. Come enjoy a tour and learn how potato chips are made and try a sample. KAT'S VIEW The chip factory was cool. It was the most potato chips I had ever seen in my entire life. There were the "chip processors" who watched the chips as they were going into bagging. They take out the over cooked or stuck together chips. I got to taste a nice hot fresh chip. It was good. I would have trouble working here because I would want to eat the chips! Pictures of UTZ Potato Chip Factory were taken by Darryl Franklin |
