For more than 75 years the Cleveland Botanical Garden has spread a love of plants. Founded in 1930, it was the first such organization in an American city. Their mission is to improve quality of life, particularly in urban environments, through plants and gardening. They are always seeking innovative ways to educate people about the essential links between plants and humans and motivate responsible behavior to ensure a healthy future for all life on earth. With beautiful facilities and innovative programming, the Garden reaches out to every segment of the community. It is a sanctuary for those who live and work in the city; a source of inspiration and information for gardeners; a living laboratory for students, teachers, and researchers; a healing presence for those with special needs; and a catalyst for urban revitalization.

Ten beautifully landscaped acres have long served as a source of pleasure and inspiration for visitors of all ages. Nine permanent gardens represent a variety of styles and showcase a fascinating array of trees, flowers, and shrubs. The 18,000 square foot crystal-peaked Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse houses recreations of two of the world's most fragile ecosystems, the sun-baked spiny desert of Madagascar and the misty cloud forest of Costa Rice. It takes you on a dazzling journey across the continents.
