Location of Sugar House Hale Farm and Village Charles Oviatt Hale built this sugarhouse at the beginning of the 20th century, thus carrying on the tradition of his grandfather Jonathan, who began maple sugaring in the early 19th century. During his lifetime C.O. tapped nearly twenty acres of sugar maples, producing over 300 gallons of syrup in a good year. Today the Sugar House is equipped with a wood burning parallel flow evaporator that converts the sap to syrup. It is used by Hale Farm and Village during the annual Maple Sugaring Program in February. |
