Hagood Mill

Hagood Mill is located at: 138 Hagood Mill Rd. Hagood Mill was built in 1826. It was rebuilt by James Hagood in 1845.
The water of Hagood Creek turns the 20 foot wooden wheel. The mill is one
of the oldest known gristmills in South Carolina that still produces grain
products. It is the only mill that uses the original wheel components in
South Carolina. Currently the mill is only open on the third Saturday of
the month. There are also some other buildings that have been moved and restored. The
Murphree-Hollingsworth Log Cabin was built around 1790 and the Hagood Family
Cabin was built around 1825. There is also a caretaker's cabin and a gift
shop. This is all set in a nice park area where you can come to enjoy the
nature trails or just throw your blanket down and have a picnic. The park
area is open daily. Throughout the year there are music festivals,
traditional mountain crafts, and living history presentations. KAT'S VIEW The Hagood Mill was alright. They had a bigger water wheel than in the
Golden Creek Mill. The water wheel was made out of steel from the time
when they no longer used ropes on the water wheels. It had a long bridge
that transported water to the wheel. They also had old grinding stones
there. They were round and naturally made out of stone.
