The Kilgore-Lewis House was built in the 1830's by Josiah Kilgore. He built it for a wedding gift for his daughter, who was married in the front parlor of the newly built house. The residence remained as a private residence for several generations of the family over 130 years. It was saved from demolition and moved to its current site in 1974. Remarkably there was no damage to the house in the move, not even a broken window. The lower floor has been refurbished and furnished as it would have been in the 1850's. The furnishings are not original to the house but have been gathered and also reproduced to what it possibly would have been like. The harp in the front parlor is the first harp that was ever brought to Greenville and the piano was owned by a prominent local family that donated it to be displayed here. The lower level of the house and property is completely wheelchair accessible.

The house and 5 acre property is owned and operated by the Greenville Council of Garden Clubs.  It is a very popular place for weddings and other get-togethers.  the gardens feature a lovely gazebo and beautiful area for weddings.  The wildlife is protected here as well.  If you look carefully you can spot an owl or even a muskrat.  It is a wonderfully peaceful area, a great place get away in downtown Greenville.
