Location of Colonial Williamsburg Blacksmith Shop Colonial Williamsburg The Blacksmith Shop was a busy place in the 1700's. Here there are multiple forges that would have been kept burning hot. Talk with the skilled tradesman here and learn what it was like to be a blacksmith. Find out about the different tools that were used and watch them work, hammering out the metal making the various items that were made in the 1700's. The blacksmiths will gladly answer any questions you may have. KAT'S VIEW A blacksmith first starts a fire then pulls a lever that blows a little air in the fire to heat it up. Then he puts the metal in the fire and after it is red hot, the metal is beat and shaped by putting it on an anvil and hitting it with a hammer till it is the shape he wants. This would be hard work. |
