Colonial Williamsburg

The Harness and Saddlemaker's shop smelled wonderfully like leather. They make the saddles by hand with 18th century tools. Carefully working the leather and sewing the pieces together, they would make most of the items that you would have had made from leather, besides shoes. Check out the saddles, harnesses, and pouches that they have made here. The craftsmen will gladly answer all your questions and describe how they make each item.

KAT'S VIEW

The saddle maker of course makes saddles. They make them out of heavy leather, not soft leather. There were flaps on the saddle. They also had a holder for a sword there. It looked hard to push the needle through.
