Location of Colonial Williamsburg Shoemaker Colonial Williamsburg The Shoemaker makes many shoes, but most of them look alike. There were not a lot of styles in the 1700's. The shoemaker would know just about everyone in the towns size and would keep some made up in the most common sizes. Others would have to be made as ordered. Special shoes and boots would always be made to order. Just like today, the average pair of shoes would cost about a day's wages and a nice pair of boots would cost about a three day's wages. KAT'S VIEW I would need to be strong to make shoes. You have to pull the threads through the leather yourself. The shoes cost a day's pay and the boots cost three days pay. The shoes are mostly black because that was the easiest to keep up. |
