Location of Agecroft Hall Agecroft Hall Built in 15th century Lancashire England, Agecroft Hall fell into disrepair and was auctioned off in 1925. Thomas Williams, Jr. of Richmond purchased the structure. He then had it dismantled, crated, and shipped to America where he had it reassembled in Richmond. The grounds have been landscaped to create a setting much like its original site. Your tour of the house shows how life was in the 16th and 17th centuries. There are many beautiful pieces furnishing the rooms as they would have been. The authentic pieces date from 1485 to 1660. One exquisite piece is a rare painted wood bedstead from the 17th century. The artistry of the piece is beautiful to see. There is a 1610 lantern clock that is an interesting piece as well. Look into the Great Hall from the upstairs passageway. The large lead glass window with the coat-of-arms in it was transported from England completely intact. Stroll the gardens that have been created to reflect the time period of the house. Fragrant blooms bursting with color are carefully planted with symmetry as they were in English tradition. The herb and vegetable garden keep with the orderly yet decorative scheme. During the summer you can enjoy the Shakespearean plays in an outdoor setting here. Be sure to check out their schedule of plays offered. KAT'S VIEW The place was very interesting. they had an automatic bow, one of the kind that was used in medieval times. There was a mummified cat (reproduction) in the wall, because it was a myth that they kept the bad spirits away. They had a large English garden out front. They had several garden areas. In one of them we saw a black and yellow snake. Dad took a picture of it. |
