Location of Fort De Soto Fishing Pier Fort De Soto Park Fort De Soto Park is a wonderful place to visit. There are many things to do here to keep everyone busy. One of the most popular activities here is fishing. There are several places to just pull your vehicle off the road and cast your line into the water. There are also two fishing piers that both have a bait shop and snack bar on them. There is an undercurrent along the beaches in this park, however the North Beach and the East Beach both have a safe swim area. The North Beach has very soft sand, great for walking along and for sand castles. The East Beach has less sandy area with small pebbles instead of just sand. Both beaches have covered picnic area and swim centers with showers. The North Beach also has a snack bar. Also located near the North Beach is the Arrowhead Picnic Area. This area offers many picnic tables along the water and wildlife area. The historic fort was built in 1898. There is a self-guided trail to explore this area. The Quartermaster Storehouse Museum was reconstructed from an Army building that was constructed in 1905. At the fort is a snack bar and a gift shop. This park also has a multiple boat ramp area (with parking), a camping area with water and electrical hook-up, a Barrier-free nature trail (2,200 feet with 6 interpretive stations), and a 2 1/4 mile self-guided canoe trail. There is also 7 miles of paved trails connecting the North Beach, East Beach, Boat Ramp, and Camping Area that is great for walking, skating, or bike riding. |
