The Florida International Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute. They opened in 1995 and has since had visitors from all 50 states as well as visitors from over 100 countries.

The museum has two permanent exhibits. The Kennedy Galleries has personal items of the Kennedy family. There is also a Jackie Kennedy gallery. There are two portraits loaned from the National Gallery. The portrait of John F. Kennedy has never been on exhibit anywhere other then the National Gallery's Hall of Presidents. There are artifacts from the museums permanent collection as well as items that are on loan to compliment the exhibits.

The other permanent exhibit is The Cuban Missile Crisis. This exhibits starts out with a look at the culture of the era through film, music, design, and more. The presentation includes period living rooms and kitchen, a 1962 schoolroom, a full size fallout shelter and a Soviet-built SA-2 Missile.  There is also on display a collection of artwork from modern Cuba to compliment the exhibit.

The museum also houses a diverse showing of national and international exhibits with partners from museums around the world. These rotating exhibits have included Titanic: The Exhibition, Splendors of Ancient Egypt and Treasures of the Czars just to name a few. The outstanding exhibits that are brought in here make the Florida International Museum a place to visit over and over again.
