The Roundhouse Railroad Museum is for more than just train lovers. This is a very impressive museum. This museum contains not only the train cars but also the oldest and most complete railroad repair shops in the country. It was built and operated by the Central of Georgia Railway from 1838 to 1963.

There are several engines and railcars to be seen. These are the real thing not just models to look at.

The roundhouse with an operating turntable is awe-inspiring. To see the technology of the 19th century Industrial Revolution is extraordinary. You can see many pieces of equipment that was used to build and repair the railcars. There is also a print shop. They have restored the 125 foot industrial smokestack as well.

You will enjoy the model train room.  Many local model train enthusiasts have worked diligently to build a replica of the trains and the town. It has sensors to come on whenever someone walks into the room. You can find and identify many Savannah landmarks and even find Forrest Gump sitting on his bench.

Youngsters and the young at heart will all enjoy a journey through this museum.

KAT'S VIEW

The Roundhouse Railroad Museum was very nice. They had a restored smokestack that you can't even see the top or bottom of. They had a machine that turned a train around to the track that they need to go to. They also had a model of the town that if you look closely you can see Forrest Gump sitting on his bench with a box of chocolates.
