Location of Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society Museum Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society Museum As you enter the Hungarian Heritage Museum, you walk through an ornately carved and hand-made (by the Boy Scout troop they sponsor) gate, "Szekely kapu", a two-thirds scale replica of a traditional portal gate used for centuries by the Transylvanian Magyars called "Szekelys". This is the entrance to an almost 6000 sq. ft. area devoted to a sampling of Hungarian history, culture, and literature. The center is filled with the most colorful collection of folk costumes and artifacts of interest on different aspects of Hungarian culture. Explore the different regions of Hungary through their ornate folk costumes: Matyo, Rabakoz, Rimoc, Kalocsa, Sarkoz, Szatmar, Szek, Kalotaszeg, as well as the formal attires of the nobility. On several panels read and see pictures about the history of Hungarian immigrants to Cleveland and the United States, their achievements in the arts and sciences, their dedication to their churches and organizations, their support of their publications and their loyalty to their neighborhoods in the Hungarian communities of Greater Cleveland. The museum also boasts a gallery devoted to revolving exhibits which are changed every three to four months offering new and exciting displays for you to view. |
