Location of Greenville County Museum of Art Greenville County Museum of Art The Greenville County Museum of Art has some wonderful collections. The art here is from American artists ranging from the 1700's to today. Most of the items have a Southern connection. There are some very well known artists that have come from the South and the museum showcases many of their works. Most noted is their internationally renowned Andrew Wyeth collection. They currently have 33 works by Andrew Wyeth. You may not be able to see all of them when you visit as they often loan one or two to other museum for different shows. The collection has examples from every phase of his work. Wyeth himself has called it "the very best collection of my watercolors in any public museum in this country." Another of the artists that the museum has a great collection of is the 20th Century artist William H. Johnson. He is an African-American artist that is from South Carolina. You can see many of his works from throughout his career. You can see the dramatic changes his style went through during his lifetime. Admission to the museum is free. It is amazing to see such a diverse and wonderful collection that has been purchased totally from privately raised funds. KAT'S VIEW The Greenville county Museum of Art was pretty cool. One of my favorite things was "God's Dogs". It was a sculpture with two dogs. One dog had a hand on its head and the other dog had a dog bone on its nose that said 'stay'. My other favorite was a painting that was untitled. The painting was blurry but you could see a waterfall in it. It was very pretty. |
