Location of South Carolina State Museum South Carolina State Museum The SC State Museum is four stories of history, science, art, and discovery around every corner. You will want to plan most of the day here. Begin on the first floor with the Art Gallery and the children's discovery center. Ascend to the second floor and enter into the natural history and prehistoric exhibits. The size of the prehistoric giant great white shark will amaze you. The dinosaur gallery also shows you what it is like on an archeological dig. The entire museum is very interactive. There are places to touch, try, and experience throughout the museum. Journey to the third floor and step into the world of science and technology. View many of the items from the time when the building was a cotton mill. See one of the first electrical generators that the building had. See the advances in transportation, agriculture, and industries. Check out early communications in radio, television, and movies. Enter into the science areas where most of the exhibits are hands-on. Lets go back through time on the fourth floor. Go from the time of the Native Americans to settlement, the Revolutionary War, plantations, and the Civil War. Journey through early rural life at the turn of the 20th century as you explore a one-room school house and general store. See what life was like for the families working the mill. Move through time as electricity brought much innovation for the kitchen and home. There is so much to see and do. When you are finished with your journey through the museum, you will have a hard time deciding what you like best! KAT'S VIEW The SC Museum was so cool. There was an old school room where you could sit at an old desk. There was a bed-like thing that I had learned on a television show was used to place dead bodies on to wait for somebody to identify them. You could create a telegram or sit inside of an old phone booth. Also watch an old Daffy Duck movie. The observing microscope was cool too. |
