Location of the Old Coast Guard Station

The Old Coast Guard Station
24th Street and Atlantic Avenue
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23458

The Old Coast Guard Station was built in 1903 and used as a life saving station. It is now a museum telling of the Coast Guard's role in the area. There are several artifacts and pictures of many items that have been used throughout the years. There is also information about several of the shipwrecks of the area and how the Coast Guard was able to help save lives in these wrecks. The museum is dedicated to "those who stood ready to serve" - the men and women of the United States Life-Saving and Coast Guard Service.

The tower has a camera mounted on it that the young visitors really like. You can view the beach, boardwalk, ships at sea, dolphins, and other oceanfront sights. You can zoom in and pan the area. On clear days you can see 23 miles away.

KAT'S VIEW

The Coast Guard Museum was nice. There were two old flare guns there, plus a bunch of boxes you could spin to see different things. There are several movies on a computer screen and on a television. You can choose what movie you want to see. There was also a computer where you could control the camera and zoom in on the city.
