Location of Burke Museum Burke Museum The Burke Museum is Washington state's oldest museum. It was founded in 1885 by members of the Young Naturalists Society. On their own initiative, they erected a building on the university campus for their growing collection of natural history artifacts. It was designated as the Washington State Museum in 1899 by the state legislature. In the following years, the museum has continued to grow its collections and research. It is recognized worldwide as a museum of natural history and culture. In 1962, Caroline McGilvra Burke bequest the current building in honor of her husband, Judge Thomas Burke. The museum was renamed the Burke Museum. The Burke Museum features changing exhibits on subjects ranging from current research and recent discoveries in natural history to the finest traditional and contemporary cultural arts. The museum is open daily and welcomes all visitors who are curious about the natural wonders of Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. Admission is free on the first Thursday of each month. A small admission fee is charged all other days. Pictures of Burke Museum |
