Location of Cyclorama Center Gettysburg National Military Park The 360-foot Gettysburg Cyclorama is housed in this circular auditorium. The painting was done by French artist Paul Philippoteaux and is a rendition of Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863. The painting is owned by the National Park Service and is a Registered Historic Object. You can view the painting with a light and sound program that takes you through the battle describing in detail what is happening in the painting and also pointing out a few differences that the artist made from the actual events. KAT'S VIEW It was pretty cool here. The Cyclorama was really big. It showed the battle in graphic detail. The artist even painted himself in the picture to sign it. He was leaning against the trunk of a tree holding a sword. The average person not knowing he wasn't in the war would say, "What's up with that?" |
