Location of Lincoln Caverns Lincoln Caverns Lincoln Caverns was discovered in May of 1930 during the construction of US Route 22. Lincoln Caverns relatively short history has enabled the staff here to preserve the environment of the caverns, presenting them to the public in a near-natural state. This has been the emphasis under the management of the third generation of the Dunlavy family to run the caverns. Your tour will include two caverns, Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks. These two caves are very close to each other and much exploration has been done to find a linking chamber. none has been found and both caves offer a unique experience. The caverns offer many educational opportunities for schools, home-schooled students, boy and girl scouts with merit badge opportunities, and other youth groups and adults alike. Learn about geology and cave formation, with a special emphasis on conservation and protecting the caves for future generations. Come and enjoy the beautiful formations The realization that these formations took many thousands of years to form is truly awe-inspiring. Let the friendly and knowledgeable staff take you on a wonderful adventure underground and amaze you with the wonders you will find. KAT'S VIEW In Lincoln Cavern one room was called Pagoda Avenue. Why? Because one of the formations looks like a Chinese pagoda. My favorite formation is cave bacon. It looks like a giant strip of bacon. There was also a wising well. It looks about three inches deep, but it's three feet deep. A really cool thing is a beaded wall with formations on it that look like little beads. In Whisper Rocks there was an interesting fossil. It looked like a seashell. There were things called bulbous stalactites that looked like eyeballs. There was an interesting thing called an upside down riverbed. There was also a cave organ. It makes musical notes when you hit it. |
