Climb aboard the American Rover and get ready to set sail across the Elizabeth River and Hampton Roads harbor. The American Rover is a three-masted tall ship. It is the largest passenger carrying topsail schooner operating under the United States Flag. There are daily two and three hour tours and you can also rent out the ship for a special party or business meeting.

As you sail along the Captain will point out various buildings and items of interest. He will tell you a lot about the history of the area. He provides a very enjoyable tour. On the way back, a singer strolled around the deck singing and playing his guitar for us. Kids of all ages were encouraged to step up to the wheel. You could take your own pictures. There was not someone there taking pictures trying to push you into buying an expensive little snapshot.

Downstairs, there was a small refreshment counter and snack bar. Try a bottle of American Rover's own label of beer or have wine or a mixed drink. There are also sodas and candy and chips. Downstairs you can also relax in the forward lounge and mid-ship seating areas.
