Location of Big Roung Top Gettysburg National Military Park Big Roundtop was fought on the second day with the Union troops positioned at the top of the hill. They kept the Confederate troops from flanking around the south end of the battlefield as they held this position. A short trail takes you to the top of this hill where you can see how the union soldiers had built up their defensive position. You can visualize the Confederate troops trying to come up the hill. The Union men were able to repel this attack and retain their position. There are many monuments to the units that fought here. KAT'S VIEW The trail was really pretty. At the top you could peak over the trees and see all around where the troop fought. There were a few memorials there too. I thought the place was nice now, but I would hate to have been here in 1863. |
