Location of Devil's Den Gettysburg National Military Park On the second day of fighting, the Union forces were overrun at Devil's Den. The Confederates were then able to use this advantage point for their sharpshooters to fire upon the Union soldiers located on the Little Round Top. There were many soldiers lost their lives here. Today, you can see how this was a good point for sharpshooters. The giant boulders and rock formations provided many areas to hide and the gaps would allow for the shooters a clear shot onto the nearby hill. KAT'S VIEW It was really cool here. This place was named "Devil's Den" before the battle by the town because of the way the rocks were formed. During the battle, the Confederacy had put troops at Devil's Den, mainly because the hill next to it was a post for the Union soldiers. And in between the two hills was called "Valley of Death." |
