Lifeguards are on duty daily throughout the summer. Row boats and paddle boats can be rented for a float across the lake. Take advantage of the game courts available, newly resurfaced tennis courts, paved basketball court or sand volleyball court. Two areas at the park, the lake and reservoir, offer fishing opportunities. The lake is stocked in the spring for trout fishing, but other fish that can be caught are bass, catfish and blue gill. The reservoir is not stocked. Nearby fishing opportunities include the Potomac River and Cacapon River. Anyone under the age of 15 does not need a license to fish, those over 15 must obtain a West Virginia Fishing License. Proper license and stamps are required. Short term fishing licenses are sold at the Lodge. At 2,300 feet, Cacapon Mountain is the dominant scenic feature of the park. The challenging championship golf course, designed by the famous golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, Sr., makes prime use of the rolling foothills at the base of the ridge. Rated as one of the 130 best-designed courses in the United States, the Cacapon course features 73 well placed sand bunkers. There are three ponds on the course which come into play on four holes. The course has several other water hazards in the form of small streams coming from the mountain side. The course is known for a double green that is over 100 yards wide. |
