Location of Akron Zoo Akron Zoo The Akron Zoo is a small hometown zoo with lots of great animals to be seen. All the animals are up close and easy to see. It is a great zoo for young children and is easily handicap accessible with nice wide paved paths. The zoo is set up in sections to enhance your viewing of the animals. Many times you will see predators in pens next to their primary prey. "Legends of the Wild" features penguins, lemurs and snakes, llamas, jaguars, bats, snow leopards, and Asian deer to name a few. "Tiger Valley" has cute sun bears, Chinese alligators, gibbons, lions, and of course, tigers. "Maxene's Asian Trail" has barking deer, red pandas, white-naped cranes, and an aviary and also seasonal exhibits. "The Wild Prairie" has prairie dogs, river otters, burrowing owls, tortoises, various waterfowl, and a pony ring and barn. The zoo has undergone many recent changes to improve life for the animals and also to improve the experience of the visitor. You are up close to the animals with great views making it fun and enjoyable for even the littlest visitors. Educational displays located around the zoo enhance your visit with lots of fun learning opportunities. Zoo Talks throughout the day feature different animals and allow interaction with the animals. The friendly zoo personnel are ready to help and answer questions. KAT'S VIEW They have penguins right in front. They'll come as close to you as they can. They have bats that were actually flying around. There were some snow leopards which they put in a cage right next to it's prey. They also have Chinese alligators, which were surprisingly small. They have burrowing owls too. They are real tiny as well. It was easy to see the animals and it was fun and not too much walking around to see everything. |
