The Greenville Zoo is a small city zoo with some great animals to see. There is not a big wide area, the zoo is more small and intimate with the animals close up for you to see. And what an array of animals there is here. Most are smaller animals, but the African elephant is definitely big! The lion will thrill the youngsters and he is up close for the kids to see. The Aldabra Tortoises are pretty big too.

There are several small sized varieties of monkeys and lemurs. In the reptile house you can see lots of different snakes and lizards. Most of the snakes are small but there are some large boas and rattlesnakes. There are also several animals that are endangered in the wilds.  The Amur Leopard is from Siberia and there are only 50 known to be in the wild. The Red Pandas are also very rare. The Greenville Zoo is working with zoos across the world to try breeding these pandas.

In the South American section you will see an ocelot, the tiny squirrel monkey, and 3 varieties of Tamarins. There is also a farm animal exhibit area with goats, a pot bellied pig, chickens, ducks, and a turkey.

This is a great zoo for little kids. Everything is close together as there is not a lot of space in the zoo. The animals will delight both young and old. There is a preschool playground for the little ones to burn off a little extra energy.
