The Metro Richmond Zoo is a fun place for children and adults alike. There are over 600 animals, over 110 species, all waiting to see you. You can purchase food (for a very small fee) to feed many of these animals and they will eat it right out of your hand. You can feed giraffes and camels, goats and horses, sheep and deer.

On our visit in June there were many babies to see. There were two baby giraffe, a baby siamang, several baby lemur, and a baby zebra. The animals are out where you can see them, not hiding inside somewhere. While some have to be behind a wire fence or pen, many are in the open with natural barriers, such as water, instead of wire. Most of the animals are in large areas where they have room to roam. Even the White Rhino had plenty of room to kick up his heels and run.

The paths are easy to walk and are handicap accessible as well.  They are just right for youngsters to walk without getting too tired. The zoo has been laid out well for your enjoyment. Food and drinks at the snack bar are very reasonably priced as well. You will enjoy a trip to this zoo.

KAT'S VIEW

they had cute prairie dogs, but they were a little skittish so I didn't see them much. You could feed giraffes, their tongues feel weird and are very long. You could feed sheep too.  The sheep see you and they come running! There was a wild snake there eating a mouse, and the tiny little monkeys in the cage above the snake sat there watching it. There were bats there too. And I saw a cute little snow leopard.
