The Bristol Center for Arts and Culture is a magical place to visit, an evolving art space 30 minutes from Greater Hartford and well worth the effort to find us. It is the home of the New England Carousel Museum, featuring a nostalgic look at the art and history of the carousel, and one of the largest collections of antique carousel art in the country. Our magnificent building also houses the Museum of Fire History, a fascinating collection of firefighting equipment and memorabilia dating from the mid-1800s.

But that’s not all. A separate gallery holds changing fine art exhibitions, so be sure to check our Calendar of Events for details. The paintings and prints of Glo Sessions, a nationally known artist, are on permanent display in another gallery. Our restoration department repairs and restores antique folk art from all over the country, and museum visitors are welcome to come watch our artisans at work. Our ongoing programming reaches out to visitors of all ages and interests, and we develop special programs and tours on request. Our classes present the enduring arts, including woodcarving, origami, quilt-making, and bonsai. We also offer an Archive and Research Library, for scholars and enthusiasts interested in researching the history of the carousel.
