Part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the National Zoological Park is one of the world's best zoos. Among the 5,000 animals of about 500 different species exhibited at the National Zoo are a pair of giant pandas, a young male Asian elephant born at the end of 2001, Komodo dragons, rare Sumatran tigers, and Mexican wolves. Recent exhibits include Think Tank, Great Cats, Amazonia, the Pollinarium in the Invertebrate Exhibit, and the Science Gallery at Amazonia. To enjoy all the Zoo has to offer, plan to spend at least three hours.
