Location of Congaree National Park Congaree National Park While visiting Columbia you will want to take a short drive down Bluff Road to the Congaree National Park. There are several hiking trails, from a short 1.1 miles to 11.7 miles. The boardwalk is an easy hike that is made for wheelchair access too. The outdoors people will enjoy the longer hikes. There is also a marked canoe trail through Cedar Creek. Fishing is allowed in the park everywhere except in Weston Lake. The park is a natural sanctuary and all plants and animals are protected. Some of the trees you will see are the Bald Cypress, Water tupelo, American elm, Cherrybark oak, and Loblolly pine. Many of these trees here are very tall One of the tallest is a Loblolly pine at 167 feet. As for wildlife, keep your eyes open. There are turtles and alligator around the lake, and there are several bird species, as well as squirrels, snakes and lizards to be found. And if you are real quiet you may be able to find a deer. |
