The Florida Museum of Natural History, located at the University of Florida, is Florida's state museum of natural history, dedicated to understanding and preserving biological diversity and cultural heritage.

With the completion of Powell Hall in 1997, the Florida Museum of Natural History has a 55,000-square-foot facility devoted exclusively to new permanent and traveling exhibits, engaging educational programs and exciting special events.

The mammoth skeleton at the Florida Museum of Natural History was excavated from the Aucilla River in North Florida. Standing 14 feet tall, the mature male lived during the last Ice Age, 16,000 years ago. This is the only articulated mammoth skeleton consisting of real bone in the Southeast United States.

The cave in the Florida Museum of Natural History’s Northwest Florida: Waterways and Wildlife permanent exhibition is modeled after a cave at Florida Caverns State Park near Marianna.

A barrier beach scene is one of the last exhibits in the Northwest Florida: Waterways and Wildlife exhibit permanent at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
