Location of Fernbank Museum of Natural History Fernbank Museum of Natural History 'Giants of the Mesozoic' depicts an encounter between the two of the world’s largest dinosaurs and the ensuing reaction of two groups of nearby pterosaurs in this portrayal of life in the Mesozoic Era. This unique exhibition envelops visitors in a scene frozen in prehistoric time from Patagonia, Argentina and includes fossil casts of various plants and animals that lived 90 to 100 million years ago. Unearthed in the badlands of Patagonia, Argentina, 'Giganotosaurus' is one of the largest meat eaters ever classified, stretching 47 feet long and weighing between 8 and 10 tons. This menacing, toothy beast is featured alongside the massive 'Argentinosaurus', which at approximately 123 feet long and 100 tons, is the largest dinosaur ever classified and would have made a hearty meal for a hungry carnivore. As visitors study the engaging scene, they will discover traces of other animals and plants that also thrived 90 to 100 million years ago. A close examination of the simulated earth beneath the dinosaurs reveals remnants of a fossilized Auracaria tree, a prehistoric turtle, a pterosaur skeleton, dinosaur tracks and more. |
