Location of Georgia Commission on the Holocaust Georgia Commission on the Holocaust The Commission brings to Georgia the internationally acclaimed, award-winning exhibition Anne Frank in the World: 1929-1945. Using over 600 photographs and 8,000 words of text, this exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank- a young, popular and precocious girl- and her family, following them from freedom in 1920's Germany, to exile in the Netherlands, to hiding in a secret annex above her father's business in Amsterdam, and finally, to death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Following them against the background of the events that culminated in World War II, the occupation of the Netherlands and the judgments of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, the exhibition enables children to experience in a more personal way, the horrors of the past and the hope for the future. It shows the terrible costs that unbridled prejudice, hatred and discrimination can impose upon a nation and its people. It also shows the wonderful, almost miraculous changes that even a small number of people can bring about when they embrace tolerance, promote diversity, and persist in seeing the goodness in humanity. The Scott Exhibit is a photographic essay of one of Atlanta's leading African-American citizens, whose family founded the Atlanta Daily World newspaper. William A Scott III later became the editor of the newspaper. He was a tireless civil rights leader, businessman, chessmaster, loving family man, radio show host, artist, poet, public servant, WWII photojournalist and a witness to the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. The Anne Frank Story explores the life of Anne Frank. It looks at the events that led to the Frank's flight from Germany to the Netherlands in 1933. It describes the Growth of Nazism in Germany, the invasion of the Netherlands, and life under Nazi rule. Photos from the Frank's family album are combined with historical images from the period. The exhibit also includes entries from Anne Frank's diary, in which she describes her life in hiding and her impressions of the events taking place outside the Secret Annex. The exhibit consist of 17 panels, which include an introduction, end credits and 15 thematic panels and photographs and text. |
