Location of Silverwood Theme Park Silverwood Theme Park Siverwood was all started by Gary Norton when he purchased a small private airport called the Henley Aerodrome in 1981. He was an avid pilot with a passion for vintage aircraft. He opened a museum here for his growing collection. Then Gary acquired an original 1916 Steam Engine Train in 1986. He began to think of his property as a playground and imagined a transpiration inspired museum & theme park. He began building his dream and changed the name to Silverwood to honor the regions mining history. His dream opened on June 20, 1988 featuring unique Victorian-themed shops and restaurants, movie theatre, and train rides. Gary realized he needed to continually expand the park to keep attendance thriving. In 1990, the Country Carnival was added several attractions were added including Thunder Canyon Raft Ride, Log Flume, Bumper Boats, and the historic Corkscrew Roller Coaster. Major expansion came in 1996 and 1999 with the addition of the Timber Terror and Tremors Wooden Roller Coasters. In 2003, Boulder Beach Water Park was added and has continued the expansion and appeal to all ages. A trip to Silverwood is great fun for the whole family. Stroll Main Street, the Victorian Town that is home to Silverwood's original buildings. Visit the Candy Factory, Victorian Coffee House, High Noon Saloon, or take in a movie at the Main Street Theatre. Head on down the Roller Coaster Alley, and take the panic plunge, a 140 foot tall tower, and drop at 47 mph! There is nothing like the creaking sound of wooden roller coaters. Here there are two that will thrill all roller coater enthusiasts. Tremors will take you and drop you underground twisting and turning at 65 miles per hours. Timber Terror will have you lifting off your seat for alternate thrills. In the hot Northwest Summers, there in nothing more fun than riding a wave or slipping and sliding down a water slide. Boulder Beach Water Park has drenching fun for all ages. Take the youngest family members to toddler Springs with fountains & geysers for toddlers to splash in. Poling Park has hoses and slides the youngsters will love. Tube down Elkhorn Creek, the Lazy River. Then take a ride sliding down Velocity Peak at 55 mph! Riding the waves in so popular, the park now has two wave pools so everyone can enjoy the fun. KAT'S VIEW: Silverwood is an excellent place to visit when you are on vacation. On hot summer days, there is a wonderful water park section. This area contains a large wave pool, several water slides, and an area to go inner tubing. Also, there is a part for very young children. In the heart of the theme park are several carnival style rides. This includes a ferris-wheel and a marry-go-round. There are several restaurants to sit down and enjoy a decent lunch at. Afterwards, you can shop at one of the several gift shops, watch a movie in the theatre, or sit and enjoy a nice train-ride. My personal favorite section was the roller coasters. They include the Timber Terror, Tremors, and the Corkscrew. They are all excellent rides that any one can enjoy. |
