The Arboretum was a gift to the public in 1970 by Bob and Frances Bickelhaupt. The area surrounding their home has been turned into an outdoor museum for all to enjoy. The Visitor's Center features an auditorium, and in the entrance area a museum display of native animals and birds. There is a free lending horticultural library. Various horticultural and cultural presentations are held during the winter months in the Visitor's Center auditorium. Educating the public about trees, shrubs, and flowers is a goal of the Bickelhaupt Arboretum.
