This romantic Victorian inn located in a small mountain
village in Western Maryland is a great place to get away and leave your worries
behind. The 1870 main house has beautiful romantic rooms. The
cottages have more of a country decor. All the rooms and cottages have spacious
private bathrooms plus central air conditioning, cable TV with VCR and private
telephones. The beds are queen or king size and have 400 count luxury
linens and either handmade Amish quilts or elegant Matelasse coverlets. In
addition, the Riverview Suite is totally wheelchair accessible. The bed is
set at a height for easy transfer. The bathroom has been set up to allow
easy wheelchair maneuvering and all the counters in the room are set at a height
for wheelchair access.
October is a popular time to enjoy the beauty of the fall
foliage along the river. The Spruce Forest Artisan Village is across the
street where you can watch the artists and craftsmen in action. Year round
there are many activities the guests of the inn enjoy. Fly fisherman can
walk out the back door and stroll down to the stream for great trout fishing.
There are walking and hiking trails at several nearby state parks and the Savage
River State Forest. You can take Scenic Mountain Train Rides (the inn has
discount tickets for guests) or visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and
Kentuck Knob. There are a couple nearby rivers for kayaking and whitewater
rafting. Summer is a great time to enjoy biking, canoeing, water skiing,
swimming, and horseback riding. There is also a championship golf course.
In the winter you can enjoy cross country skiing, downhill skiing, and ice
fishing.
After a busy day, come back to the inn to relax and
unwind. Use the steam/dry sauna and you can even schedule a nice massage.
The front and back porches have rocking chairs and the decks have comfortable
patio furniture so you can sit back and soak up the mountain air and beautiful
scenery. Your hosts Cathy Paine and Julyen Norman have seven acres along the
Casselman River and have created a wonderful place to have a romantic getaway or
a stress free weekend.
