Montana Lakes Rivers and Streams
Montana is known for its wide open spaces and outdoor recreation. Fishing is well known here. There are presently 85 species of fish in 21 different families known to be in Montana waters.
The general fishing season traditionally opens on the third Saturday of May, while fishing on the state’s lakes and reservoirs is generally open year round.
Numerous locations across the state provide excellent fishing opportunities for young and beginning anglers, and a few waters have even been set aside strictly for use of those 14 years old and younger. While such sites may not offer trophy fish, they do typically provide a reasonable expectation for success, often coupled with good access and other facilities.
