Nevada, the Silver State, was adopted as a territory in 1861 and admitted as a state on October 31st, 1864. The name "Nevada" comes from the Spanish word meaning "snow-capped." When most people think of Nevada, they envision the bright lights, casinos and entertainment of Reno and Las Vegas. However, there is much more to the state than just the casinos. Beautiful Lake Tahoe provides great fishing, outdoor recreation and world-class skiing. The Sierra Nevada Mountains and the backcountry throughout the state are packed full of fishing, hunting and all kinds of outdoor recreation. Historic sites and ghost towns are scattered throughout the state for those who wish to take a step back in time. So take the time to experience everything Nevada has to offer, including beautifully scenic mountains and fascinating historic sites and exciting cities. |
