Located at the intersection between two of the nation's most traveled highways, Interstate 80 and US Highway 93, Wells is an important stopping point for thousands of weary motorists. When it was founded in 1869, the town was originally named Humboldt Wells because it is situated at the headwaters of the Humboldt River. Many lakes and streams in the area provide excellent fishing and lots of hunters come here to chase big game through the backcountry. Visitors will want to check out Well's Historic Front Street and the Trail of the 49er's Interpretive Center as well as Metropolis, a nearby ghost town. |
