Explora: creating opportunities for inspirational discovery and the joy of lifelong learning through interactive experiences in science, technology and art.

Enjoy activity that fosters opportunities for thought, curiosity, imagination, growth and lifelong learning through experiences involving experimental manipulation of material things, interaction of minds, bodies, objects, prior experiences, cooperation with others, and the creation of personal meaning.

Explora creates an experience that is direct and personal, that inspires curiosity, thoughtful activity and communication, that opens new dimensions and awareness of the world, that contributes to personal growth and the growth of personal meaning, that supports a learning community, and that underlies, encourages and sustains inquiry and lifelong learning.

The scale of most exhibits is small, fitting on tabletops. The parts are hand-sized and made for handling. They try to make exhibits with transactive qualities, such that both they and their users are changed even in small and unexpected ways by the encounter. There is evidence of previous activity for the next user.

Growing a Scientist is an opportunity for hands-on activities for children ages two through four and their adult companions. In these classes, toddlers learn about science by questioning, experiencing, and investigating. Each session of Growing a Scientist meets every other week. Class periods are made up of one hour of activities focusing on scientific discovery and incorporating art and literature. Following the activities, there will be time for enjoying a snack and experiencing Explora’s exhibits together.
