The Brooklyn Museum is the second largest art museum in the United States, with a permanent collection of more than one million objects. One of the premier art institutions in the world, its holdings include objects ranging from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art and represent almost every culture. The Museum is located in central Brooklyn, a half-hour from midtown Manhattan. The Brooklyn Museum has its own subway stop, which has recently been completely renovated and displays on its mezzanine walls, 78 objects from the Museum’s holdings of architectural fragments from demolished New York City buildings. The Brooklyn Museum is set on Eastern Parkway, one block from Grand Army Plaza, in a complex of 19th-century parks and gardens that is also home to Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (with which the Museum shares a parking lot), the Prospect Park Zoo, and the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.

The Brooklyn Museum’s collections are highly regarded by scholars, collectors, and connoisseurs all over the world, and enjoyed by a diverse public. Its vast holdings range from the ancient to the contemporary and encompass virtually all the world’s principal cultures, reflecting the institution’s long history of collecting the arts of non-Western non-western peoples.
