Brooklyn Children's Museum was the first museum created expressly for children when it was founded in 1899. A pioneer in experiential education, its success has inspired the creation of 300 children's museums worldwide. With award-winning, hands-on exhibits and innovative use of its collections, the Museum engages children from pre-school to high school in learning adventures. It is the only children's museum in New York State, and one of the few in the country, to be accredited by the American Association of Museums.

An interactive world of fun awaits in the Museum’s innovative exhibition galleries, featuring cultural and natural science objects from around the world. Children can play musical instruments from different countries, meet live lizards and snakes, run a pizza shop, or explore artifacts such as dolls, bones, jewelry, and masks.

In order to better serve its visitors, Brooklyn Children’s Museum is currently expanding to double the size of the Museum. The Museum will remain open to visitors during construction. The new building is designed by world-renown architect Rafael Viñoly and is scheduled for completion in 2007.
