The USS Cod
1089 East 9th Street
Cleveland, Ohio 44114
Voice: 216-566-8770

The USS Cod is a submarine with a lot of history. It was launched on March 21, 1943 and was commissioned on June 21, 1943 during World War II. She quickly joined the fight in the South Pacific and made seven successful war patrols before the war ended. The COD sank the Japanese destroyer KARUKAYA, an LST, a mine sweeper, and several cargo ships and troop transports. On July 8, 1945 the COD came to the aid of the Dutch submarine O-19, which had run aground on Lapp Reef deep in enemy waters. After the war, the COD was used in many different capacities. Today, you can tour the submarine and see how life was like for the crew and learn about some of our history.
